Remote Terminal Unit (RTU)
A Remote Terminal Unit (RTU) is a device used in substations to monitor equipment and operate it remotely. It collects data from sensors, breakers, relays, and meters and sends it to the SCADA system. It also executes control commands from the control center, ensuring smooth and reliable substation automation.
The RTU acquires data such as voltage, current, breaker status, alarms, and energy values. It supports major protocols like IEC 101/104, DNP3, Modbus, and IEC 61850. Designed for tough environments, it includes redundant power, accurate event logging, and GPS/NTP time sync. It also functions as a SCADA gateway for automation, fault monitoring, and improving grid reliability.
